Hit and Run, The Conclusion

A long time ago, a little while back, a South side genius got screwed up on everything he could lay his happy hands on and manged to wander into Sylvania, Ohio, where he drove through Main Lady's front yard with reckless abandon, smacked into her happy home and promptly took to his heels.  You can read all about it if you've a mind to in this entry: Hit and Run, which comes complete with photos.

The other day Main Lady got a call from the Sylvania Court.  It seems that the wheels of justice have finally completed one revolution, the guilty party is going to be sentenced and has she ever been reimbursed for the damage this pinhead caused?  No, she hasn't.  Curiosity prompted me to see what was up, and after a complex search here's what I was able to find out.

This whole business took over two years to before it cleared the milestone of sentencing.  Now the joker has to make restitution.  Fat chance.  Anyway, here's the step by painful step of the entire process as gathered from the docket of the Sylvania Court system.

Release Of Warrant Block Sent To Bmv

Two years and two months later this choir boy gone wrong gets off with a suspended sentence, drug and alcohol treatment and has to pass a series of drug screens.  After that he's free to resume his previous lifestyle.  My only thought is that with a DUI charge on his record he'll have a hard time getting insurance in the future, but then he'll likely just drive without it.

It took two years for our lousy court system to deal with this meatball who was so screwed up that he took out a stop sign and slammed into Main Lady's house.  You know how screwed up you have to be in order to pull something like this off?  I don't think I've ever been that hammered in my entire life!

My hard spot with this is that the punishment is completely ineffective.  It took the court system over two years to deal with something that should take two weeks at the very most.  Suspending the man's license for 8 months is not going to prevent him from driving.  He can get behind the wheel of a car anytime at all and play dodge 'em with the local police - and even if the police see him driving, how will they know he's an unlicensed driver?  The same it true for auto insurance.  It's against the law in the State of Ohio to drive without auto insurance, but that law doesn't stop anyone from driving without it.  They'll just drive the car anyway and avoid accidents.

Now, if this man had been made to sit in jail all this time I'll bet the whole business would have been over and done with in two weeks, instead of two years.

The information from Sylvania Municipal Court Docket entry on Traffic case number 1001856 really does raise eyebrows!
