George Floyd Fallout

By now I'm assuming that everyone who might be reading this hound knows who George Floyd was and how he died - or was murdered, or simply cashed in his chips.  If not, follow this link and scroll down a way: Fox News Link, or read the summary.

In summary, George Floyd got busted when some nameless employee at a grocery store dropped a dime on him.  He-she-or-it told the cops that Floyd was passing funny money in the form of counterfeit twenties. Four cops showed up:

Derek Chauvin, who put the cuffs on Floyd, threw him to the ground, and then put his knee on Floyd's neck until he stopped breathing - and pretty much everything else. Chauvin was assisted by Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and Alexander Kueng.  The whole thing with the knee on the neck was recorded on video by an innocent bystander, then released into the wild.

All four cops are now ex-cops, having been fired.

George Floyd died on Monday, May 25, 2020 (Memorial Day) around 8:30 PM at a local hospital, but for my money he was probably already dead before they loaded into the meat wagon.  On Tuesday, the four officers involved were fired.  As of today, Derek Chauvin has been arrested.  We'll see what he's charged with.

Now for the point of this wildfire.

I'm 800 miles from Minneapolis / St. Paul, but naturally the BLM and a host of others decided that this is the prime time for a Black versus White Oppressors and police brutality march.  Thanks to PJ Media there was some decent coverage on this event.

Violent Rioters Breach Ohio Statehouse, Breaking Windows and Entering Building to Protest Death of George Floyd

Rioters in Columbus, Ohio, launched an attack on the Statehouse in the early hours of Friday morning to protest the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The Statehouse in Columbus came under attack, with rioters breaking windows and some entering the building. There are unconfirmed reports that the protesters damaged the interior of the building.

The protest began peacefully at around 8 p.m. local time but escalated throughout the night.

The protest may well have started peacefully at 8:00 PM, but time rolls on and the protest, as it is referred to, escalated into rioting and looting.  Everyone knew that once the protestors assembled, this is what the outcome would be.  Why?  Experience.  Case in point, what happens when the Detroit Pistons play on their home court and lose.  People riot.  What happens when the Pistons play on their home court and win.  People riot. What happens when the BLM crew is involved in a protest?  People riot and loot.

The same thing happened in Minneapolis / St. Paul, with a significant new event.

Minneapolis Police Precinct on Fire, Police Abandon Area, as Riots Over Death of George Floyd Escalate

For the third night in a row, protests and riots rocked Minneapolis in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer. Stores were once again looted and buildings set on fire as protesters demanded justice for Floyd’s death. The Fifth Precinct police building is currently burning and authorities are warning of a possible gas leak in the area.

The 'protestors' attacked the fifth precinct police station, and the occupants advanced to the rear.  They fled rather than defend their own office.

My first thought was something on the order of holy fucking shit! but then I started thinking.  If the cops will run rather than fight in defense of their own police station, just how much help from the police will I get should a group of these peaceful demonstrators decide to start having a little party in my neighborhood which escalates into an impromptu scavenger hunt?

In Minneapolis / St. Paul, you're on your own.  In Columbus, I'm hoping for a bit more, and I'll probably get it.  Well, the fire department is right down the street from me, so when the fire starts they'll be on the scene in a New York minute.

On more of a big picture note, my thinking is that the BLM and their allies will be encouraged by this victory, and attacks against the police will become more frequent and more aggressive.  I may not be alone in this.

In other news, President Trump has moved 500 National Guard troops to Minneapolis / St. Paul with the idea that this particular kind of peaceful protest will not be tolerated.  Anyone remember Kent State?

Of course, it's the outside influences agitating.
I hope someone at DOJ will notice and move.
