I often read Peter Grant, the Bayou Renaissance Man. Peter is a man I'd call well read and well traveled, and I respect his opinion.
However-comma...
Keep reading if you like, with the usual caveats about mileage and sleeve length, and the customary warning to thin-skinned politically correct moonbats, SJWs, and various other left-wing organizations.
In his latest post, Peter quotes Michael Yon: "I am warning and warning and warning that we are steaming straight into civil war" (whom I've never heard of, but so what) and uses Yon's prophetic missive to support his own predictions about the coming civil war and the gearing up of the populace for same.
Okay, We the People are gearing up for Civil War II. Whatever's right, I guess. What I'd seriously like to know is this: who are the various Civil War factions, and what does each faction want? And, while we're at it, who are the leaders of each faction? Because frankly I don't see any of this happening.
What I see happening is preparation for a famine that's just over the horizon, but never gets around to arriving. Kind of like the California Big One, which will adjust real estate values in California, and which has been scheduled for anytime now - but never happens.
Has anyone got a program for this skirmish, and if so, who's the favorite to win?

I don't think the majority of the country has the intestinal fortitude required for such an event anymore. Always easier to just watch NCIS or whatever.
I lean towards your thinking - a civil war, as people use the term, isn't going to happen. In the previous unpleasantness, there were two relatively divided geographic sections of the country, and two fairly well defined sides of political thought associated with those geographic divisions. The Federal government was not as deeply intertwined with local affairs - the individual states had a much higher degree of autonomy than today.
People may argue that we are similarly divided (coastal vs central) but in reality we are more mixed than the typical voter red/blue map shows. Our political leadership (such as it is) seems to be sharply divided, but in reality both sides work for the same corporation (Big Government, Inc). In any outbreak of rebellion, both sides will work to stamp it out in favor of the Federal government. And stamp it out they will - any outbreak of what would be viewed as rebellion will be quickly and ruthlessly suppressed.
Frankly, the idea of a civil war 2.0 is a fever dream that collapses under any serious examination. This is not the 1860's, and the Federal government is much more powerful than before.
Sorry for the length. I could go on for quite a while about this or other internet fantasies, but that's for another time. Maybe over a beer or two sometime.....
CW: I agree. It's easy to talk about from the comfort and anonymity of your office chair, but holding down a full time job and working as a minuteman nights is a lot more than most people are willing to do.
Neon Madman: I'm buying.
I think pockets of rebellion are possible, and I offer as proof the 'peaceful demonstrations' in Minneapolis, Philadelphia - the list seems endless and includes Colorado Springs, CO, of all places. All that being the case, government (local, state, federal) is going to quell the rioters and that will be that.
I survived the Watts riots and the Detroit riots. I actually witnessed one skirmish that was an early part of the Detroit riots, and I was a lot closer to the rioters than I ever told anyone.
My thought: Why don't you have your own blog, and why am I not reading it?
Mad Jack - the one thing that I would note about those "peaceful demonstrations" is that they were TOLERATED by the authorities. The Capitol Hill nonsense, on the other hand, is receiving the full force of suppression. This goes back to my view that anything that directly challenges the established order will get stamped out quickly and hard. There won't be a civil war because there would only be one side - the establishment side. Sure, as you suggest, we may have pockets of resistance on the other (our) side. If they threaten the established order, they will get stamped out quickly. If they do not, they may be tolerated for a while.
Boy, I'm just a ray of sunshine, huh?
BTW, I have sometimes thought about a blog, but there are already a lot of others out there who say things much better than I do.
Neon Madman: I used to think the same thing, then just started up one day. I don't have a huge following or anything, but then I'm not entirely sure I'd want one.
I think that a few States are starting to get out from under Federal authority. If not for that money the Feds give us, well... which is actually how the Federal government keeps control of the state. The Fed accepts tax dollars, applies a handling fee, then passes a few cents back to the state. All that being the case, I'm watching a few states become second amendment sanctuary states, which is nice to see, but which also defies Federal gun laws as the Liberals would like them to be.
We'll see what happens. I guess.
We should skip The Revolution and go right to The Terror.
We are IN a civil war right now.
There's even shooting.
The revolution will not be televised.
Correct.
I see corruption and terrorism going through the roof, sporadic clashes, and the odd atrocities. Riots, peaceful protests, arson, with the groups acting out against each other as opportunities present themselves.
Read People's Republic, Indian Country, Crisis.
WHILE IN AN amish store the other day there were 4 AMISH AND 4 english[us] in the store . They were all talking about when they thought the war would begin . Globo-homo and the war on children was the subject . It's close .Trust me . .
I would encourage people to read about the Spanish Civil War. Many different factions fighting together, mostly against the Communists. What the history books (most of them) don’t say is the various factions fought in reaction to what the Communists did, i.e. the religious fought because the commies burned Churches and so on. I believe the same thing will happen here, hell it’s already happening! It is starting slow and local. I hope the Feds stay out of it, but they won’t.
JFM
JFM: Thanks. What I know about the Spanish Civil War wouldn't crowd the head of a pin. I'll read up on it as I have the time.
I think you raise a good point. People were allies in name only; the motivation for each was much different.
