Suppose, just hypothetically now, but just suppose you manage to piss off a medical doctor who is working on you. Or maybe it's a nursing practitioner, which is the next thing to an M.D. Or a cop. Yeah, cops are big fun when they get pissed off. For instance, my best friend during my misspent teenage years was Fast Eddy, who got pulled over in Wauseon, Ohio due to an excessively loud exhaust system on his Chevy SS 396 with four and a quarter horse.
"You got hot pipes on this car, son?" the local cop wants to know.
"Hell, I don't know. Reach down and feel 'em," Eddie replies.
Oh yeah. Or maybe you refer to the nursing practitioner as a victim of DEI, and when she gets testy you mention that there's a special on watermelon down at the local Kroger's.
Under most circumstances the official in question will refuse to serve you and scribble a sort of secret code next to your name which will tip other workers off to the fact that you're a racially prejudice homophobic fat shaming son of a trailer trash whore - and the staff, most of whom are black, will treat you poorly. Except those in the know, of course.
Those in the know will treat you to a 72 hour vacation in the puzzle factory, and short of breaking jail, there isn't one damned thing you can do about it.
Check this: New Albany shooting suspect had history of 'pink slips.'
Pink slips are 24-72 hour holds and can be issued by doctors, nurse practitioners and law enforcement when someone presents a risk to themselves or others. When the hold period ends, a patient can either be discharged or choose to stay. If they want to go home but a doctor thinks they should stay, they must go to court.“The pink slip says the healthcare system is going to hold you for three days. If the healthcare system says you still need continued treatment, a judge gets to evaluate so there is a third party that gets to decide what happens next,” Stroh [Brian Stroh, M.D., CEO of Netcare Access in Franklinton - MJ] said.
By healthcare system, they really mean the state mental hospital. Note that the people who issue these pink slips are medical doctors, whom you would think would be dispassionate and issue said pink slip with some consideration for your personal situation - but they don't; nurse practitioners, none of whom have studied psychology for any amount of time and yet who are making a judgement call on your freedom and sanity, and law enforcement, which, given the crowd that generally reads this hound, I don't think I need to embellish on.
From the article:
“The pink slip says the healthcare system is going to hold you for three days. If the healthcare system says you still need continued treatment, a judge gets to evaluate so there is a third party that gets to decide what happens next,” Stroh said.
The judge, who has no training in psychology, will question the officials involved, including the mental health hospital staff (barely above minimum wage, they are most often fat, black, and illiterate human hate machines who want to keep you inside with the rest of the lunatics, and who are protected by the union. Others are musclebound pavement apes just looking for an excuse to dog pile a 'mental health services consumer', which is what you are), and come to a decision. Often a wrong one.
If you don't play your cards right, you'll get returned to the cracker factory, and if you continue to fuck up, you get medicated against your will. How do you feel about a few cc's of Thorazine with your morning coffee?
And, by the way, just as an aside, you can be denied visitors. So the old ball and chain can't see you, nor can your kids, and your attorney may have a tough time of it. Try and make sense to your attorney or anyone else when you're tanked up on Thorazine. You won't.
Some things haven't changed, and if you act like an asshole (me? Never!) you may end up in the shock shop. This is where the muscle-head orderlies and the fat hate machines get to give you electroshock therapy. Yeah, it's bad, but the alternatives are worse. Insulin shock is what they're using now, and in some mental health care facilities they aren't above lobotomies.
Then you got the 'consumers' to deal with. Some are violent and will get you put in restraints when you defend yourself. Others are violent, period. I, personally, know of two murders that occurred at the state mental hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Neither was ever investigated, no charges were ever filed, and everyone knew who the guilty party is.
All this can happen today in the State of Ohio. It's all real, and the reason I know this is because the dirty sons-of-bitches railroaded my father right after he had a stroke. He got locked down for 72 hours due to a nurse he insulted (get your goddamned hands off me!) and several other officials who lied about what they heard and saw. The psychiatrist was named Williams - may she burn in hell.
We got him out, mainly due to the fact that I told him he could never speak openly and honestly to any of the health care workers there, and I had a licensed clinical doctor of psychology to help, which made the others involved a whole lot more polite and cautious.
Until this situation changes, we're all at risk.

I saw this movie. Had Jack Nicholson in it.
Didn't end well.
Here in the Wild West, we call this a "51/50." Get "diagnosed," and you get a three-day stay in the rubber room, followed by a FOUR YEAR DENIAL of your CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to bear arms... Convenient...
