Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan Dead Right There (DRT)

The dust cloud (well, one of them anyway) you're watching is the fuss over Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan, two citizens of the United States who took off on a shoestring bicycle journey around the world and ended up dead in a You-Name-It-Stan ditch.

Keep reading for a hardhearted look at them and the news media.  Warning: This missive is politically insensitive, personally insensitive, and hasn't been screened for trigger warnings, politically incorrect speech, and other bad things.  Read at your own risk.  Your mileage may vary.

I first read about this in the news someplace and shrugged it off.  Da'ish (AKA ISIS) often kills people and brags about it.  This might sound a bit callous, but my reaction is, so what?  A terrorist group worth its gunpowder is going to terrorize as best it can - safely, anyway.  You won't see Da'ish pulling any terrorist activities in Pierre, SD.  They just wouldn't last that long.

The folks at American Thinker ran a piece about it, Couple Pay With Their Lives for Embrace of Progressive Delusions (August 17, 2018) By Thomas Lifson.
From the article:
This is a "tragedy" in the original Greek dramatic understanding: people undone by their fatal flaw, based on pride.
Which is stable dressing.  I actually tried reading the Greek tragedies once, and gave it up as a bad deal.  Maybe I got sidetracked, I don't know.  The The New York Times published this piece, ISIS Says It Killed 4 Cyclists in Tajikistan (July 30, 2018) By Andrew E. Kramer and Rukmini Callimachi
From the article:
MOSCOW — A car ran down a group of touring cyclists in the Central Asian state of Tajikistan over the weekend, killing four people from the United States [Austin and Geoghegan - MJ], the Netherlands and Switzerland. On Monday, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.
Tajikistan is a poor former Soviet state that fought a civil war against Islamist insurgents in the 1990s and has been plagued since then by local unrest and spillover violence from the opium-smuggling trade in Afghanistan.

My point is that these two special snowflakes decided to spend their life savings on a bicycle trip around the world, which is fine, right up until the time their friends, families, and keepers fail to realize that the two chowder heads are headed into Tajikistan like Mister Magoo on a midnight walking tour of Kingston, Jamaica.  What could possibly go wrong?

These two are not victims of their own pride.  They're victims of their own stupidity, and the direct and deliberate efforts of Da'ish terrorists.  They remind me of another couple, Timothy Treadwell founder of Grizzly People, an organization dedicated to protecting bears.  He lasted 13 years, then his luck ran out in 2003 when he and his equally brilliant girlfriend Amie Huguenard were both eaten by a bear.  Later on the same bear tried to eat someone else and was brutally and unceremoniously shot to death, as was a second, smaller bear that also tried to eat some people.  Bearskin rugs and bear meat stew, I say.

The media likes nothing more than to flog a dead horse, so we're all a-twitter about the terrible situation in Tajikistan (wherever the hell that may be - I had to look it up, as I've never heard of it before), and the media is providing this coverage instead of the criminal cover up at the Holy Catholic Empire, the crime discovered by Federal investigators that involves ex-politicos from the Ayatollah Obongo / Hitlery Clinton administration, and a nine year old who is able to hack a voting machine.  Yeah, two dumb-asses get killed.  That's rare, alright.

Da'ish is my name for ISIS or IS, mainly because I'm told is pisses ISIS right off. See this little blurb:

Isis, Isil, IS or Daesh? One group, many names (December 2, 2015) By Faisal Irshaid BBC Monitoring
Daesh is essentially an Arabic acronym formed from the initial letters of the group's previous name in Arabic - "al-Dawla al-Islamiya fil Iraq wa al-Sham". Although it does not mean anything as a word in Arabic, it sounds unpleasant and the group's supporters object to its use.
Daesh (or Da'ish) also sounds similar to an Arabic verb that means to tread underfoot, trample down, or crush something.
Hence, Da'ish.  If I get any kind of response, I can always change it to something a bit more inflammatory.  Goat fuckers, for instance.

Happy hour begins in a few hours, and I'm not ready yet.  Have a great weekend!

Darwinian deletion of less evolved people who don't get that all people aren't good continues apace.

I read about this on FB but assumed they were hacked to death and moved on.
Thanks for the clarity.

CW: Boy howdy, you got that right. I've read this one over a few times and I still can't believe that any two people who could hold down regular full-time jobs could possibly be that stupid.

Ed: Thanks for stopping by.
