You'll Do Better

Today is election day in Ohio, and among other things we're being asked to legalize marijuana, known in the 1950s as the killer weed.  Beware when you're out at a bar somewhere, least the 'friendly stranger' slip a marijuana cigarette into your cocktail and you'll get addicted to 'Mary Jane'.

Aside from the tax levies, which I voted against on general principals, the city of Toledo lacks a mayor, a situation that this election will remedy.  Now, seeing as how I don't live in Toledo, I feel pretty safe in pointing and laughing at the semi-intelligent sponges that comprise Toledo city council, but when it comes to being mayor of the city, my sense of humor fails me.  The reason?  Carleton S. Finkbeiner is on the ballot, and there's a good chance he'll win.  This is the same Cart-man that suggested we move deaf people next to the airport, who drives his city owned company car like a madman (his official chauffeur was riding shotgun and avowed 'never again') and who has been involved in more than one physical altercation with his constituents.

So while I was out riding my bicycle today, I noted this sign at the border of T-town:

Bet Me
I'll do better in Toledo?  Bet me.  One of the candidates on the ballot today is very likely certifiably crackers, to put it politely.

Photo Enforcement
Then we have Toledo's contribution to civilization as we know it - traffic cameras, both red light and speed limit.  What isn't generally known is that the 'fines' are civil, not criminal, so the real response is to tell the city government to go pound sand in their asses when they contact you, telling you to come in and pay your fine.

So if Carty gets elected it won't affect me directly, but just once I'd like to see the great unwashed approach an election with something close to a few reasonable choices and an intelligent, informed opinion about who they'll be voting for and why.

I'm not holding my breath.

I guess then, I shouldn't be too unhappy if we get stuck with Tom Henry here in Fort Wayne again...
