Charitable Donations

As I remember it, I was 21 when I was first pressured into donating money I didn't have to the United Way.  Now that I think about it, it may have been MDA, but no matter.  My manager attempted to coerce me into making a sizeable donation, then attempted to shame me into making a donation.  His tactics didn't work.  The only charity I supported then is the same one I support now, the Salvation Army.  I also support Planned Pethood, which I consider a worthwhile charity.

This morning, while I'm drinking my morning coffee and trying to convince myself that I'm alive, I sat on the remote and the Today Show came on.  I rarely watch the Today Show, which consists of self-important bubble heads and pseudo-erudite rattle traps blathering on and on about what they think of a particular situation (President Trump and North Korea, for instance), while deranged spectators dance around in the background like a tribe of spider monkeys infested by fire ants, trying to get noticed on live TV.  Since my mental faculties, such as they are in the morning, have yet to provide me with a suitable definition of reality, I continue watching.

It seems that the Today Show is tied up with the United Way, and they are all going to do something about disaster relief in Texas, and all parties concerned (one bubble head and one rattle trap) are soliciting donations.  I'm not surprised.  Consider this little missive I stumbled across later on today.

Where the Money Goes
Skip the top five.  If you really want to help, give to the Salvation Army.  While disaster relief charities will certainly accept goods of various kinds, please check the list of items that are needed, then consider giving cash instead.  Don't worry about the United Way; the Today Show has them covered.

Those stats don't surprise me at all.
These "charities" are NOT the stuff of past decades...they have mostly ALL gotten a bit too damn big for their britches.
Agreed on the S/A...they don't seem to be in the pocket of the agendists.

Good call.

Stay safe.

I always check with Charity Navigator before giving. Thus my funds have went through Direct Relief and Samaritan's Purse.

Most charities are only technically not-for-profit.

CW: Thanks, I'll remember.
