Idiocy Online

During a moment of inebriated ennui, I subscribed to Quora.  People (presumably people, although after you read a few of the questions you begin to wonder) pose questions that they desperately want answered, and as fate would have it, I am often unassigned for the ten minutes or so that a fairly dry answer requires.

The other day some budding genius asked: What are some of the popular names of horses belonging to Indian warriors?

I couldn't resist.  Here's my answer, with the inspiration for the name in italics.  I didn't include the inspirational notes, but perhaps I should have.

If you’re referring to American Indians, here are a few names:
  • Afraid of Thunder  The name of an Indian family on the Rez out in South Dakota.
  • Horse  From the film, A Man Called Horse
  • Cactus Target  Complete fiction
  • Bull’s Eye  From Doctor Grumpy in the House: Ride like the wind, Bullseye!
  • Scorned Woman  From Scorned Woman Hot Sauce
  • Buffalo Hunter Complete fiction
  • Deer Foot  The name of a horse from the book Cowboy by Ross Santee
  • Sneaky Kicker  Inspired by a friend's horse from South Dakota.
  • Watch Out He Bites  Overheard many times at horse shows.
  • Sure You Can Ride Him  A variant of 'hold my beer'.

The real answer is, of course, What are you, nuts?  If you really want to know, go out to the Rez and for a sawbuck, the locals will tell you anything that makes your crazy white ass happy.

Quora.  Right, great idea.

So it's probably not a trustworthy source?

I would say that the answer to that would have to be yeah. So yeah.
