In Direct Defiance!

With a complete disregard for my own personal safety and in a premeditated, contemptuous, and direct defiance of lock down, stay-at-home, and social distancing orders from the government everywhere, I joined Big Mike for Easter dinner at his house.

What follows is a general description of the dinner.  Names have not been changed any more than usual.  Insults for all occasions have not been carefully thought out, but if anything occurs to me rest assured I'll deliver it with my best anti-moonbat style.

Usually, Big Mike's dear old mother, Chatelaine, joins us for Easter dinner.  She wasn't able to yesterday, in part because Toledo is locked down and the cops are stopping anyone who dares cross a border and is giving these scofflaws a bad time of it.

Unless, of course, said scofflaws habla español or are a member of some minority race, because then stopping them would be racial discrimination, marking the officer as a racist, which (we the progressive, enlightened and woke sincerely hope) will condemn the officer to six weeks of intensive sensitivity training.

Also Chatelaine had an unfortunate encounter with the dog next door, which Big Mike expressly told her not to screw around with, but she did, and as it turned out the dog was, predictably, not all that friendly.  Then she was allergic to the first set of antibiotics the docs gave her, so she got a different antibiotic along with something to counteract the rash she has over her entire body.

Here's the dinner, as it happened.  Red beans and rice with a pork shoulder.  The beans were soaked overnight, and the whole business (less the rice) was cooked in an antique pressure cooker that Big Mike hasn't used in many years.  I stood in the hall, risking a quick glance now and then, because pressure cookers are supposed to have safety valves, but on this one the valve tends to stick.

The Table
The rice and beans were exquisite, the flavor set off nicely by the mushrooms.  I'd be tempted to write a bit more, but it's after noon and I must visit the grocery store.
