A Few Complaints

Today I was picking up a few items at the Dollar General across the street from my home.  While I'm standing in line a teenager and her boyfriend walk out the door with a full hand-basket of items.  They didn't pay for anything and the clerk wouldn't pursue them or demand payment.

We now have Olivia Kurtz and Ty-Sean Finch, both of whom are on the dark side of the lawn.  No arrests have been made.

Standard disclaimer: The thin-skinned, SJWs, or members of any racist civil rights group should take one milligram of Xanax and wait thirty minutes before continuing.

You guess the race.  Hint: It ain't the Amish.

The incredibly stupid city government of Columbus, Ohio is promoting some kind of feel-good program that will teach students 'how to do hair'.  I suppose that translates into hair dressing, which I guess is a fairly artistic career.  Me, I've found an old school barber shop, and that's where I go.

The CPD are understaffed, and by their own admission aren't pursuing property crimes.  So if some enterprising member of an unsupervised social-athletic club that is racially oriented (or not), raids your car, spray paints graffiti on your garage or fence, or breaks into your home or garage, don't bother calling the CPD.  I suppose if the property owner puts lead in the air, someone may call, but unless there's some son-of-a-bitch leakin' in the property owner's living room, well, your complaint can wait.

Ty-Sean Finch was killed during an argument.  If this is anything like a typical teenage argument, it would have been over something incredibly stupid, and escalated into a shooter pulling his gat and sending Finch to the promised land.  Oh well.  I'm sorry for his mother, who mourns the death of her child.

Olivia Kurtz, from what little has been published, was riding on a scooter with her sister when she stopped a nine millimeter slug with her throat, and so died.  Not instantly, either.  This death could have been prevented by the CPD if they had received orders to disperse the crowd, all of whom were trespassing, disturbing the peace, destroying public property, and creating a nuisance.  This is one death that could have been prevented - and wasn't.

Meanwhile, I have the midnight shooter keeping the neighborhood livened up:

  • 2021-05-18 00:07: 5/18/21 at 12:07 AM, I heard three series of gunshots fired in quick succession.  The shots were fired to the north of my home.  The first two series of shots sounded like a .22, and the third series sounded like a 9 mm.  Each series consisted of 6 to 10 shots.
  • 2021-05-22 01:30: May 22, 2021, a Saturday around 1:30 AM.  The local shooter fired off another magazine, probably 9mm.
  • 2021-05-31 11:30: May 31, 2021, a Monday around 11:30 PM.  One or more local shooter fired off 6 groups of shots, each group consisting of 5-12 shots.  The groups were various calibers.  This sounded like it might be a gunfight, so I called 9-1-1 and got a disparaging attitude from the man on the phone, who concluded by asking me if I wanted to speak with the police when they arrived (I declined) and said that the CPD would send someone once they were free.

Gee, I'm sure sorry to break up your evening with a shots fired call.

You know, I care less and less about this guy and his shooting.  What with the CPD not giving a tinker's damn, I don't feel very civic minded.

Today I was shopping at the Dollar General across the street from my home.  I watched a teen age black girl walk out the door with a full handbasket of goods she hadn't paid for.  Or had no intention of paying for.  The clerk refused to do anything, stating that the last time she confronted a thief an accomplice offered to take her head off.  The clerk retreated, and I don't blame her.  Even if I were heeled I wouldn't want to confront a black female stealing.  You'll get Shaniqua Theater at the very least.  At worst, her boo would step in and ultimately get his worthless ass ventilated.  Then the CPD gets involved, and here we all are - downtown and headed for the slammer, when the reality is that the shooter should get a pat on the back, Boo gets a ride to the morgue (no court costs!), and Shaniqua has to return the stolen merchandise and gets a hickory massage for her trouble.  Maybe she'll think twice before she pulls this one again.

Yeah, if only...  This being a property crime, nothing will happen.

I don't want to wonder about just how all this will end up.

I have heard of this business of just letting shoplifters walk away with the goods. I understand that it is fairly common in some California cities too. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around the concept. If laws like this are not to be enforced, what is the point of obeying any laws? If certain ethnic groups are tacitly allowed to do this and others are not, what does that say about equal status under the law? If prosecutors and judges elect to go down this path because of manpower or other concerns, what does that say about the efficiency of the law enforcement/judicial system. One could conclude that the systems are collapsing, and that this is an early indication of the fate of the society az a whole.

My sympathies for your position, MJ. I'm in a better one, but that is simply a matter of chance and circumstance. We have to play the hand we are dealt.

Twenty years ago, my Bro-in-law was a store manager for Farmer Jacks.
The instructions were to not stop shoplifters.
Somebody had been stopped by security earlier and got injured in the scuffle and sued!
So my BIL saw a guy stuffing his jacket with steaks.
Bob goes up to his elevated cubicle, gets on the PA and calls for security to the meat department, knowing there was no such animal.
The guy put the beef back and left.
Yet Menard's thought wearing a mask was so important last year the guard broke a guys leg for not wearing one.

Our society (America) was built on a notion of being accountable to God, Who DID see all and Who would reward accordingly.
That notion has been lost.

This is what the tall foreheads call an 'Anarcho-Tyranny'. Everyone is on camera, nobody has privacy and the social engineers reign supreme. If you get caught on the traffic cam speeding or running a red light, the ticket is in your mailbox 24 hours later, and you have 30 days to pay up or risk additional fines or even imprisonment. But if some black baboon steels your car, the cops won't even pretend to look for it.

Neon: Sometime after the lamentable passing of that saintly pietist George Floyd and prior to the severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, or the Wuhan Flu) pseudo pandemic, I happened to be shopping at this Dollar General and overheard a conversation between the cashier, a stocky young black male in his early 20s, and a few customers. Among other things, the working man stated that he'd chased down a thief in the parking lot, retrieved the pilfered merchandise, and sent the thief on his way being somewhat the worse for wear. He was reprimanded for his actions by upper management; the customers all gave him compliments.

This led to brief discussion of the George Floyd case, which he stated was not about race, but about those who work for a living and those who won't. No matter how little you earn, then that's up to you. You earned it. You want more, then that's up to you.

I'd have hired that man in a second.

I don't think most of this gets to the prosecutors or judges. My thought is that since no one is arrested, charged, and brought to trial, the prosecutor and the judge can't do much.

Crime wise, I live in the hole in the doughnut. Most of the real crime around me tends to be petty stuff, mainly because the neighbors tend to be armed and willing to discharge a firearm within the city limits. At least that's what I think. Now if I could just get rid of the boom cars, this would be a perfect place to live.

Ed: Good for your BIL!

Menard's security is whatever it is. My own brother used to work for John Menard, and described him as a ruthless SOB. Absolutely unscrupulous - but successful.

You're right about the religious influence that we've lost. I've looked over the founding fathers and their friends and families; they were tough, but they had faith like bedrock.

Glen: Anarcho-Tyranny. I had to look that one up.

From someplace on the Internet, Francis's term "anarcho-tyranny" refers to armed dictatorship without rule of law, or a Hegelian synthesis when the state tyrannically or oppressively regulates citizens' lives yet is unable or unwilling to enforce fundamental protective law.

Which, with a few tweaks, is just about where we are right now. I didn't know there was a name for it.

And THIS is why so many stores are closing in 'underserved' neighborhoods... When you can't even keep stock, and losses outpace revenues, it's time to close the doors.

Old NFO: It's past time. They have theft problems at this particular store, and after teen mothers and their carpet crabs go through the place it looks like a dump. The kids will open food packages, eat a few cookies, then close it back up again. The mothers (by definition they have to be the mother) don't see it, or don't care. Or both.

The DG store benefits the area. The prices are reasonable, it's close, and it's much better than an affordable housing development. On the downside, the litter on the street makes the entire place look like garbage.
