George Zimmerman: Wanted $10,000 Reward

I thought that the commercial news media pushed the Zimmerman - Martin shooting over the top.  I still think that's true, but I've revised my estimation of just where the top is.

I was reading the Bayou Renaissance Man and found this gem: The Trayvon Martin affair, which is turn led me to discover that Zimmerman was on the ground being punched when he shot Trayvon Martin.  It seems that there was an eyewitness after all, but because his story doesn't support the racial prejudice and police indifference screed being published by commercial media and various hate groups, the testimony was ignored.  You can read the original here: Man shot and killed in neighborhood altercation.

Now it looks like Zimmerman has a price on his head.

Trayvon Martin: New Black Panthers offer $10,000 bounty for capture of shooter George Zimmerman
Members of the New Black Panther Party are offering a $10,000 reward for the "capture" of George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who shot Trayvon Martin.
New Black Panther leader Mikhail Muhammad announced the reward during a protest in Sanford Saturday. And when asked whether he was inciting violence, Muhammad replied defiantly: "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth."
The bounty announcement came moments after members of the group called for the mobilization of 10,000 black men to capture Zimmerman, who shot Trayvon in a gated Sanford community on Feb. 26.

I would wonder how credible this offer was - does the hate group really have ten grand cash to back up their words?  Then there's this from the Sentinel:
Muhammad said the group's national chairman, Dr. Malik Zulu Shabaz of Washington, D.C. is receiving donations from black entertainers and athletes. They hope to collect $1 million by next week, Muhammad said.
The party said they would not release the names of donors nor would they provide documentation to support the existence of donations.

I think it's certainly possible to get a rap star or two to put up the money, right along with a few professional athletes that have nothing better to do with their hard-earned dollars.  Well, earned anyway.  The Chicago Tribune carried this story as well: Trayvon Martin case: New Black Panthers offer $10,000 bounty for capture of George Zimmerman.  I didn't even look any further to see who else was printing this garbage.  What I'm wondering is if it's possible to file suite against a few of these papers for endangering a life.

The New Black Panther Party is nothing more than a terrorist group, and if this threat weren't carried by commercial news media it would very likely die out in time.  That isn't the case, and given the free advertising and lack of condemnation by commercial media, this is very likely a credible threat - against a man who has been questioned and released, and who has not been charged with a crime or indicted by a grand jury.

Information about the New Black Panther Party can be found here, at the Southern Poverty Law Center - New Black Panther Party, who describes the group thus:
The New Black Panther Party is a virulently racist and anti-Semitic organization whose leaders have encouraged violence against whites, Jews and law enforcement officers.
I hope George sues them for their back teeth - the gold ones.

That's just maddening. Vigilante justice cuts both ways and neither is good.

Huh. SPLC actually got something right. How many times has THAT happened in the last 20 years?

I have been so irked by this case, especially because of the mob mentality and vigilantism emanating from the violent extremists. How can they justify putting a bounty on someone's head and gathering up a posse of their brothers? They want an eye-for-an-eye? Many victims of crimes want that too, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. Taking the law in to your own hands is also a crime. These are undoubtedly the same liberal morons who oppose the death penalty.
Now, Democrats with their knee jerk reactions, are proposing changes in the Castle Doctrine law.
This poor SOB is being tried in the court of public opinion and he's living in fear. Never mind that. A young black male was killed and once again, it's racist. I'm so tired of this crap.

What is really getting on my very last nerve is the way commercial media is giving coverage and legitimacy to the actions of the New Black Panther Party. Having a group of domestic terrorists put a price on someone's head is bad enough, but if commercial media had ignored them completely their actions likely would have faded away in a month or so and eventually been relegated to the urban legend category.

The Chicago Trib is publishing this and failing to condemn it. The President of the United States is failing to condemn these actions - which, in my mind, displays the character of The Anointed One for everyone to see who has eyes.
