I'm out of step with civilization in Columbus, Ohio. Here are two examples illustrating just why I don't fit in, and probably never did.
I wrote about the Reggie Brown case a short while back. I can't remember just what I wrote and I'm too lazy to go back and read it, but the Last of 5 Teen Girls Convicted in Deadly Assault Sentenced for the violent murder of Reggie Brown has, at long last, collected her slap on the wrist and the case is officially closed.

The five girls, whose identities have not been disclosed due to their ages, ranged from 12 to 15 years old at the time of the crime.
The attack occurred on the night of Oct. 17, 2023, in an alley along the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue NW. Brown, who did not know his attackers, was chased and beaten to death by the group of teenage girls.
The oldest of the group, who was 15 at the time, took a plea deal and testified against two of the others. In her testimony, she stated that the attack was carried out simply because they were bored. She was sentenced to three years in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon.
At the time of the attack, Reggie weighed 125 pounds and was crippled up so that he couldn't run away, and he couldn't fight off his attackers. These five psychopaths were bored, so for entertainment they went out looking for someone to attack and beat to death. I can't imagine what their home environment must have been like, or what their parents are like. Words fail me.
I believe that these five should have been tried as adults, and I wouldn't object to the death penalty in this case. That may sound a bit harsh or excessive, but I don't see these five females as ever being of any benefit to any society anywhere, nor do I think it will ever be safe to allow them to be released into society - ever. I see no real reason to house them.
In Columbus, Ohio, a shooting occurred on April 24, 2025, during an attempted car theft at a Sunoco gas station. Demetrius Ransom Jr. shot and killed Ahmed Abdirahman, who was trying to steal Ransom's car, which was left running and unattended in the parking lot. Ransom was subsequently charged with murder and remains in custody awaiting arraignment on April 26, 2025.

A $1.5 million bond has been set for a Columbus man accused in a fatal shooting, who said he was trying to prevent his car from being stolen. The alleged shootist, Demetrius Ransom Jr., left his car running at a Sunoco gas station. Ahmed Abdirahman, 30, decided to step into the running car and drive away, whereupon the owner of the car, Demetrius Ransom Jr., shot and killed him.
Demetrius was arraigned at 9 a.m. on Saturday in Franklin County Municipal Court on a murder charge. In addition to the bond, a preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 5.
I don't have a problem with this shooting. There's a video that supports Demetrius's statement. Sure, he shouldn't have left his car running, but so what? Does that give a low life thief license to steal it? The cops should have verified the story, then got Demetrius some help cleaning up the mess in his car. But no - according to the cops you're supposed to just let the criminal walk away with whatever he wants, and the police will handle it later on, when they have time.
Just let me sit on the jury for Demetrius' trial.
So that's two. Juvenile criminals don't get the punishment they richly deserve, and we're not allowed to protect our property against theft - and this is just plain wrong.

People in authority aren't overly fond of "self help". If we handle it ourselves, what do we need them for?
How is stealing someone's car substantially different than stealing their horse before the days of the internal combustion engine?
If I recall correctly, the traditional punishment for horse thieves back in the day was hanging.

I have a terminal case of nigger fatigue. I’m sick of this shite. White justice does not work with black criminals. That’s why our ancestors lynched them.
Black justice needs to be four things: simple, fast, fair - and incredibly brutal. When you consider the average IQ of blacks is 85…and that 40% of them are literally and functionally too dumb to work at MacDonalds… white people need to reframe and reorient.
The only things making blacks behave are fear and common sense. 40% of them have no rudimentary common sense. What does that leave?
I agree - those girls should be executed not as punishment - but as a warning to the others.
So did he leave the car running, perhaps, in hopes of bagging a GTA perp?

I think you're right about the self-help angle. I've heard the old, 'don't take the law into your own hands' far too many times, and I'm still not sure what it means.
Glen: I agree. It's not the punishment, it's the surety and the immediacy of the punishment that deters the criminal. In this case I'd give them three days to get their affairs in order, then send them out to the firing squad one after the other. Yes, it's harsh, but those five won't be beating anyone else to death, will they.
CW: My impression is that he wasn't thinking. I see the same sort of scenario, especially in the mornings. Stop in to grab a coffee and a doughnut, and leave the car running. Foolish, yes. Deliberate, not so much.
Ed: Truth. We should be able to protect our own property, and somehow over the years we got denied that right.
