RFI: Gun Rust

I'm in crises.

I don't open my gun safe all that often, and the other day I idly wondered if I actually remembered the combination, then I wondered just where the combination was written down (not inside the safe, and I could do with fewer comments and less laughter from the peanut gallery), and so I found the combination and opened the safe.

Rust has attacked a few firearms.

Having recovered enough to actually do something about it besides kick myself for being an absolute idiot, my questions are:

1. What's the best way to remove rust from a firearm?

2. What's the best way to prevent this kind of thing from happening again?  Keep the humidity low inside the safe, sure - but how to do that?

COVID Vaccination, Second Shot: Day 2

The shoulder doesn't hurt, but I'm still slightly disoriented - enough so that I have to write things down.

Now I note that I have a list of things to do today, and so will get busy.  When I think of it.

COVID Vaccination, Second Shot: Day 1

Hey! Wanna get high?

I got my second COVID vaccination on 3/24.  Moderna, if it matters, and it probably does.  The side effects yesterday were a bit unusual.

I got the shot, waited requisite 15 minutes to make sure I wasn't going to keel over, ululate, or projectile vomit and choke to death on my own vomitus.  I drove home, and about halfway there realized I was a bit disoriented.  By the time I got home I was disoriented to the point where I didn't think it wise to drive my car or play with my gun collection.  I called Big Mike on the phone and it took me a while to remember why I'd called him - something about the streetlights being too bright to allow me to observe the occasional U.F.O. from my bedroom window.

I couldn't sleep.  I finally got to sleep around 4:00 AM, and woke up at 9:30 in the morning - yes, it was that morning, as I checked the date.  My arm aches a little and my head isn't completely clear.  I plan to take it easy today.

I guess my point is that I'm not sick or anything.  Yet.

COVID Vaccination, Second Shot: Day 0

I got the first shot of a two shot series on February 24^th, 2021.  The first shot shot gave me a three day hangover.  Not a bad hangover, just a long one.

Today, March 24^th, 2021, at 10:00 AM, I got my second shot.  It hurt like hell, and I've been slightly disoriented all day.  My arm no longer hurts, but I'm having a good deal of trouble concentrating or remembering just what it is I'm supposed to be doing.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Whinging - Another Word for Whining

I was born in 1952, with a few defects - exercised induced bronchial asthma (which no one knew anything about) and severe allergies.  I haven't gotten over either one of them, although I now have better living through chemistry.  I, however, had advantages that other children didn't have - mainly a mother who qualified for sainthood, and a maternal grandmother who taught me the advantages of being able to write.

Seeing this pic, I started thinking about the hardships of those early years.

Our anniversary was yesterday, Jack.

Who knew?  Well, I knew, but I forgot.  Even though I happened to see the date the other day and told myself I'd write something worth reading.

"I Am the Majority" by Mark Robinson (R) (2018)

 

Mark Keith Robinson (R) was elected in 2020 to the office of Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina.  Mark is a Republican and is the first African American to hold the office.

This speech, which kicked off his political career, was given at a meeting of the Greensboro (NC) City Council, where council members were publicly debating canceling a local gun show in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

From Mark Robinson's speech:

The law-abiding citizens of this community and many communities around this country, we're the first one taxed and the last ones considered and the first ones punished when things like this happens, because our rights are the ones being taken away.

I don't think I've ever heard it said more succinctly.

United at a Price

I've been more than a little depressed of late.  A pair of incompetents (Joseph Robinette Biden Jr and Kamala Devi Harris) have been fraudulently elected to the office of the President and Vice President, respectively.  Both are liberal Democrats; both are conspicuously unscrupulous and incompetent to serve.

Plenty of rants and criticisms have already been written about these two, and more will be written over the next four years.  It's during this time that the GOP must mount an effective offensive against the moonbats.  I sincerely doubt they'll be able to achieve anything meaningful, but if they want to keep their respective seats and honor their commitment of service to their constituents, they must try.

This, while the moonbats howl in joyous schadenfreude, while chanting slogans about peace and unity.  Just what would it take to unite the Left and the Right?

Industrial Grade Stupidity and Ignorance

I shouldn't take credit for the title, and in point of fact, I don't.  The phrase, industrial grade stupidity, was coined by Sarah Hoyt (see the link below the fold), and it defines our new not-a-president and his elite cadre of devil worshiping officials quite neatly.

Election Fallout - One Example

I'm depressed over today's outcome for two reasons.  One, President Donald Trump only has 14 days remaining as President of the United States.  Two, this election was fraudulent.  The moonbats don't care, and the wingnuts won't begin to fix it.

I remind myself that we elect presidents, not god-kings.  That said, when Joe Biden finds his way to his new office, many people will write not my president as a way of protest.  Not so.  Joe Biden is not my president; Joe Biden is not a president, and that's the way I'll refer to him.

If you're looking for something by way of entertainment, this is a solid choice.  The stories are well thought out, the characters develop, and the writing is well above average.

When the devil's In The Pulpit

CW Martin reminded me of this pastoral train wreck, and reminded me that I'd written about it back in October of 2017.  Read it or not at Church Scandal in Toledo, Ohio.  The short of it is that three scumbags and one scumbaggette got caught abusing a teenage girl.  They are:

Not The Midnight Shooter - Updated 12/15/20

On Monday, December 14th at 11:02 PM EST, I heard 20-25 shots fired somewhere nearby.  Judging by the sound, there were multiple firearms in use by multiple shooters.  One sounded like a shotgun, but let fly with over five shots so I'm thinking more like an SKS or something.

This is not the Midnight Shooter.

For one thing, the time is all wrong.  For another, this sounded more like some kind of Iwo Jima starting up.  Well-now, me being a relatively sober, civic minded citizen of the United States, I called 9-1-1 immediately and reported shots fired.  The nine-eleven operator asked me if I wanted to talk to the police, and I replied that it wasn't necessary.

Five minutes later I could hear the first siren wailing away in the distance.  It was joined by a second, then a third, then an entire parking lot full of emergency vehicles got into the act.  It stayed that way for a solid twenty minutes, and various vehicles with flashing lights passed my house.  The CPD came by with the hammer down, maybe five or six cars.  I counted two meat wagons, one fire truck, and a final CPD unit bringing up the rear.  Probably older guys, as they have better sense than the young ones.

We'll see what's on the morning news, but I'm guessing a drive-by.  Looks like Machine Gun Alley is living up to its name.

20-Year-Old Killed, 16-Year-Old Injured in East Columbus Shooting

From the article:
Officers were called to the 6100 block of East Livingston Avenue near Brice Road around 11 p.m.

Police found two people shot.

20-year-old Osjahnique Eugia [STET] Nicole Giles got a meat wagon ride to Mount Carmel East Hospital where she cashed in her chips.  Her 16-year-old companion went to the hospital and is expected to recover.  Physically, that is.

No, I don't know how to pronounce her name, even phonetically.

If you believe the local talking heads, the CPD said that the actual shooting happened on E Livingston Ave near I-270, which is West of where Osjahnique and the teenager were found by police.

CPD Detectives have no motive and no leads.

So it's either gang-related or road rage.  Or both.  Given the current political climate, I'd check to see if the car is sporting a Biden/Shaniqua bumper sticker.

Good luck with this one.  I'm betting it goes unsolved.

I get a news feed from Slashdot (News for Pseudo Intellectuals and Crap No One Should Care About), and most days I glance at it and delete it - usually after it's been sitting in my in-box for about eighty years.  Today I actually found something interesting.
